Windsurfing Windsurfing
About the Product
If you’d like to experience the thrills—but avoid the spills—of windsurfing, this is the book that will get you ready to set sail! From basic skills to descriptions of some of the world’s most popular windsurfing locales, Windsurfing provides all the information you need to get started in this exhilarating sport.
Ken Winner, former world-champion windsurfer, shares the knowledge he has gained in two decades of windsurfing competition. His expert instruction, presented in an easy-to-read style, makes learning the basics so simple, you’ll want to head out on the water immediately! Filled with dozens of full-color photos, this comprehensive guide covers all the fundamentals beginners need so they can become competent windsurfers, including:
• how to determine which type of windsurfing is right for you,
• what to wear,
• where to get the equipment you need,
• how to find a good sailing site,
• how to perform basic turns,
• exercises to strengthen and stretch muscles and prevent injury,
• how to avoid problems and prepare for emergencies, and
• much more.
But Windsurfing is more than a how-to book that you’ll use only a few times. It also contains valuable reference information that you’ll consult again and again. You’ll find descriptions of some of the best places in the world to windsurf, from the Caribbean to Hawaii and Australia. And if you want to add even more excitement to the sport, you’ll find a chapter on racing, playing windsurfing games, and performing freestyle tricks.
Plus the book offers listings and descriptions of windsurfing books and videotapes, information about windsurfing magazines, and addresses for windsurfing organizations around the world. There’s even a glossary of windsurfing lingo to help you master the sport’s unique terminology.
This book is part of the Outdoor Pursuits Series from Human Kinetics. Like all the books in the series, Windsurfing emphasizes safety, environmental responsibility, and—most of all—the fun of outdoor activity!
