About the Product

Learn the long-awaited secrets of rhythmic gymnastics success! Started in the Soviet Union in the 1940s, rhythmic gymnastics (RSG) has long been dominated by Europeans. But now, Rhythmic Gymnastics shares the proven European system for training top RSG gymnasts.

Written by an elite coach and the former president of the International Gymnastics Federation, Rhythmic Gymnastics provides information previously unavailable in the Western world. It covers all aspects of technique, training, and competition. If you want your gymnasts to achieve their potential in RSG, this is the book that will help you do it.

Featuring more than 200 illustrations, Rhythmic Gymnastics is the most comprehensive book on the sport. First, you’ll learn how to help your gymnasts develop and master:

• leaps, balances, pivots, and other body movements;
• apparatus handling techniques;
• flexibility and coordination; and
• speed, strength, and endurance.

Next, you’ll find detailed instruction on how to structure workouts, create a comprehensive training program, and teach important aspects of dance. Finally, Rhythmic Gymnastics shares the keys to composing winning routines and preparing your gymnasts for competition.

Not only is this the perfect book for RSG coaches; it’s also an excellent training companion for gymnasts at all levels looking to improve their RSG skills, a helpful reference for parents who want a better understanding of the sport, and an idea book for coaches and gymnasts involved in artistic gymnastics.

About the Author

Nadejda Jastrjembskaia has been involved in rhythmic gymnastics at many levels-as a scientist, educator, coach, administrator, judge, and gymnast. Born in the USSR, she graduated from P.F. Lesgaft’s Academy of Physical Culture with a Candidate of Pedagogical Science degree. She coached for a Kaliningrad Regional RSG School and taught RSG courses at Kaliningrad State University. Most recently, she was the chief coordinator for Malaysia’s RSG development program and a consultant for the Malaysian Gymnastic Federation. In 1998 she opened her own gymnastics center. Jastrjembskaia makes her home in Madison, Alabama.

Yuri Titov is the former president of the International Gymnastics Federation. He was a member of the USSR gymnastics team from 1956 to 1966. During that time, he participated in all Olympic Games and World Championships, winning a total of 33 medals, including 11 gold medals. Titov lives in Moscow, Russia.

Words of Praise

"This book represents a truly scientific analysis of rhythmic gymnastics-never done as a whole before. Once you have read it carefully, you’ll realize how difficult and long the road to real mastery of this sport is. So far, the achievements of rhythmic gymnastics as a sport are far ahead of the literature written about it. In this respect, this book will show you that including the sport in the Olympics was not accomplished merely by chance. This is a brilliant primer for coaches."
Vera Atkinson
Press Officer, British Gymnastics
World Champion, Rhythmic Gymnastics-Group Exercises (1968, 1971)

"This book is an interesting overview of rhythmic gymnastics written from the Eastern European perspective."
Nancy Marshall
Athlete Wellness Program Manager, USA Gymnastics
Member, U.S. Olympic Artistic Gymnastics Team (1972)
