About the Author
Charmain Sutherland is a physical education specialist at Holland Elementary School in Virginia Beach, Virginia, who has worked in private and public schools for more than a decade. She has taught physical education and health to every type of studentat-risk, disadvantaged, and privilegedand has coached a variety of sports. In April 2001, Charmain received a national teaching award presented by Coca-Cola and Healthsouth for developing a dynamic physical education program that exceeded the expectations of her city, state, and school. A member of the American Alliance for Health, Physical Education, Recreation and Dance, she is a popular speaker at state conventions and citywide in-services in Virginia Beach. Charmain earned a masters degree in physical education, administration, and supervision from Old Dominion University.
