About the Author
Therese Iknoian, MS, is an exercise physiologist, former nationally ranked race walker, and internationally published freelance health and fitness writer whose work has appeared in Trail Runner, Men's Health, Fitness, Women's Day, Shape, and Parenting, among others. She is also the cofounder and coeditor of the GearTrends Network with a Web site (GearTrends.com), trade magazines, and a news service (SNEWS) specializing in the outdoor, fitness, and sports markets.
As a race walker, Iknoian won numerous awards, including two silver medals at the 1993 and 1994 National Masters Track & Field Championships. In 1994, she broke the world record for her age group in the indoor 3-kilometer racewalk.
Iknoian has authored two books on walking, Fitness Walking and Walking Fast, has developed walking and fitness programs for several international companies, including Polar, Nike, and Star Trac. She is a gold-certified instructor by the American Council on Exercise and is certified by the American College of Sports Medicine as a health and fitness instructor. She is a member of the IDEA association for fitness professionals and has been a featured presenter at past conventions.
Iknoian lives in the Sierra Nevada foothills of Northern California with her husband and fellow journalist, Michael Hodgson.
